You Are a Badass - Book Summary

by Jen Sincero

"You are a badass everyday."
– Jen Sincero
"Sincero ... brings a fun, feminine verve to now well-tread self-help tropes... The tone is far more feisty than academic, and there's humour on every page, all of which is exactly what her intended audience most needs"

Part 1: How you got this way

Your subconscious has a huge impact on how you feel and think. When you ask yourself “What is wrong with me?” the brain will start to show you so that it can answer your question.

Your mind develops through your childhood, and it doesn't matter how smart you become, your subconscious will still influence you. For example, since you were small you were told by your parents that nobody in the family is good at making money, eventually, this message will get imprinted in your mind and your subconscious will think that you are not good at making money.

The Ego or as the author calls it the Big Snooze, has its primal scope to keep you in a state of fear. It has incorporated all the negative believes and fears, and to pass this state you have to start giving yourself love and try sometimes to get out of your comfort zone.

Part 2: How to embrace your inner badass

The ideal is to get yourself to a place of peace and happiness, and you can achieve this by stopping overthinking and just start doing something, trying your best at what you do, there is no one main goal forever and they can change through the years, listen to your intuition and love yourself.

How to give yourself more love:
- appreciate yourself
- say positive affirmations
- do what you love
- don’t compare yourself with others
- forgive yourself.

Part 3: How to tap into the motherlode

“Our thoughts become our words, our words become our beliefs, our beliefs become our actions, our actions become our habits, and our habits become our realities.”
– JEN SINCERO

Practice meditation for relaxation and for visualization.
There is a law called the law of attraction, and you attract what you think. If you think about negative situations you will see and attract negative situations.

You must shift your focus to more positive thoughts!

Part 4: How to get over your B.S. already

There are a few things you can do to value each day:

  • Try to take difficult tasks, step by step like a beginner with a desire to learn.
  • Embrace mistakes.
  • Express gratitude daily.
  • Forgive more easily.

Part 5: How to kick some ass

Create a goal and have faith that the universe will help you get it there. Try to imagine your goal with as much detail as you can.
You must start moving the wheel, successful people keep progressing even if the situation gets hard or uncomfortable. It’s ok to fail just try to learn from what didn’t work and move forward. For example, basketball legend Michael Jordan didn’t make the cut for his high-school basketball team, and well-known movie director Steven Spielberg was rejected from film school three times.

You are powerful. You are loved. You are surrounded by miracles. Believe, really believe that what you desire is here and available to you. And you can have it all.
Love Yourself
You are a badass.”
